Most of the founders and entrepreneurs I know or work with, who’ve decided to build a business, started with the intention of creating something that reflected their values, or a belief in creating something with a purpose - something that can make a difference.
Yes, making money is important. It is a business after all… and so is the freedom factor - the ability to create something while fulfilling other responsibilities or desires.
However, I see more and more founders hustle their way into burnout.
Or follow a launch script that makes their skin crawl.
Or pretend they’re booked out when they’re actually burnt out.
Like them, I also felt (and believed) that the only way to grow is to squeeze myself into a strategy that doesn’t feel like me…
I see this all the time with the entrepreneurs I work with — founders, consultants, creatives, coaches:
They’re not afraid of hard work.
They’re not afraid of visibility.
They’re not even afraid of selling.
They’re afraid of losing themselves in the process, because the common process wasn’t designed for them, or their lifestyle, responsibilities, season of life, culture ….
I’ll be honest, and I know this will ruffle some feathers...
Most of the mainstream marketing playbooks out there (and most of what is shared online) wasn’t written with values-first, relationship-driven business owners in mind.
Most of them teach pressure over clarity, no reference to abundance mindset, scripts over substance, and manipulation (and urgency) over messaging and connection.
I’ve launched many digital products - and the times that I followed those “recommended frameworks”, I immediately felt off … and so are many business owners.
That “ick” is very common, and it’s because our intuition tells us “This might work. But it’s not ME.”
So many are using tactics that makes them build a reputation that is far from them, their values, their intentions, their personality. The result: having a reputation as a result of a style and framework that is different from who you are…
Not everything out there (even the successful frameworks) must be followed without nuance.
So what’s the alternative?
Building a business that reflects your values isn’t just possible, it’s profitable when done with intention. The intention starts with the founder personal brand.
- You stop over explaining your prices — and start owning your positioning
- You shift from convincing to connecting — because your messaging does the filtering.
- You launch in a way that feels grounded — not gimmicky.
- You serve the clients you actually want, not just the ones who say yes the fastest.
..and it all starts with asking: What do I want to be known for? and What am I no longer available for?
If your content, offers, or visibility don’t reflect the business you want to build, that’s not a sign to pivot your purpose. It’s a sign to realign your approach.
Values and growth are not mutually exclusive. You don’t have to choose between soul and scale, or between honesty and results, or boundaries and visibility.
You just have to stop using marketing methods that weren’t designed for your kind of leadership, or that is not aligned with your personal brand.
