Reframing Thought Leadership & Making it Simple

LEADING WITH PERSPECTIVE - NOT JUST CONTENT

Hello Reader,

Is there another word for Thought Leadership? Google gave me “industry expert” or “influential voice”. Chat GPT’s suggestions included “Perspective sharing”, “Influential thinking” and “Voice of Experience”.

These words all lead to entrepreneurs thinking of “informative content” … but honestly, building thought leadership in your personal brand or positioning yourself as an influential voice when building your reputation is beyond content of that sort (it does help, but not much in this “Trust Recession” times we’re in).

I was thinking of ways to better explain the overused word of Thought Leadership…

It looks something like this: Leading with Perspective (not just Content) when building a personal brand that actually works for you and your business/career.

“Leading with Perspective” could be clearer and here is why..

Content is everywhere. Content is available and in abundance.

Let’s also not forget the saturated types of content we all share or consume: tips, tricks and “value bombs”.

What’s happening for many business owners who are trying to control the narrative, build their brand and follow the common roadmap to online presence: they post consistently but still feel invisible, while a few others say less, but somehow move rooms.

This is reality. In every industry. In every market.

Why? because these few others do not just create content, they lead with perspective

(and they do not create like a social influencer but as an influential voice & thinker).

Leading with thought invites reflection, elevates the conversation around a certain topic, challenges thoughts and beliefs, instead of creating content for the sake of posting, filling space, focusing on attention grabbing and wishful virality irrelevant of context, quality or depth.

And I get it; business owners use content for many reasons, mainly to positively impact their business. But what’s been happening in the past few years is the rise of loud voices that promote and push volume, fake urgency, loud and attention grabbing, promising the need of a viral moment or a certain follower count as a solution to a strong personal brand.

That type of direction creates noise and content that just fills space, with no clarity…. let alone what most business owners feel: pressured, demotivated, imposter-like, inauthentic, attention grabbing, maybe even desperate.

Building your reputation using organic growth through content marketing means leaning into relevance through authenticity, sharing consistent point of view, helping audience think differently instead of promoting consumption in speed.

It’s unapologetic, clear, opinionated, maybe even thought provoking.

It’s also humble, impact driven, leading from a place of growth and learning instead of

  • Content conformity
  • Echo chamber posting
  • Surface level sharing
  • Noise without nuance and context
  • Bandwagon type of thought sharing

Elevating your personal brand by leading with perspective means you don’t need more posts. You don’t need to post out of pressure, or in someone else’s voice or style (just because that’s what the algorithm now needs).

Instead, leading with perspective means sharing content with more clarity on what you stand for, what conversations you’re meant to shape and how your voice fits into the bigger picture.

Because when you lead with perspective, you don’t just “show up”, you actually stand out..
