I've been at it for a while...
Since taking the leap into entrepreneurship, I started and re-started different businesses.
I know what it means to launch a product-based business - I launched a fashion label that was sold in boutiques across 8 countries and 3 international online stores.
I also know what it takes to launch a service-based business. My communications consultancy was based out of Dubai, and I got to work with legacy brands such as Tiffany & Co and Sephora, agencies on communications pitches & a number of senior leaders and CEOs on communications strategies.
As for re-starting, that I also know... 5 years ago, after moving to Canada, not knowing anyone, I decided to re-build the communications consultancy all over again... but this time, I added digital products like my course, masterclasses and trainings, my podcast, as well as pivoting to include working with business owners (my passion), not just companies & organizations.
Looking back at the roller-coaster ride of the past 15 years, I vividly remember the tough and stressful nature of launching.
You know what I'm talking about... the hard work that goes behind the scenes of building something that you know is valuable (and you've validated it), creating the whole funnel and value chain, and studying every decision under a microscope (from pricing to packaging to everything in between).
You've ticked all the boxes. You've done everything right. You've launched with a solid marketing plan. You've been active online and you follow your content calendar to the last detail. You get on sales calls. You show-up.
You do all the work, but it doesn't reflect on the bottom line. The sales are either not coming or inconsistent.
I'll be honest with you, I experienced this more than once, and at different seasons of my business.
That's when I had to go back to the drawing board and try to figure out "the leak":
- Is it the customer journey and an issue with the touch points I identified?
- Could it be the communication? Did I articulate the value of the offer and the promise?
- Is it in my marketing plan? my content plan? my collaborations and partnerships?
- Is it the timing? or The packaging?
- Is my personal brand and reputation not doing some of the heavy lifting?
The first time it happened, I will never forget the excruciating 3 months that followed. Trying to figure out where is the missing link and the number of iterations that followed till I got it right.
The other times after that, I had the advantage of being around great minds. I either seeked help within my accountability pod or hired help by bringing-in a coach.
If you're going through this (and if you're doing everything right), I hope you're not listening to the voices online that pushes the sole idea of "more content publishing".
I'm a communications strategist and I promise you that while content does have great powers.. they are not super-powers that solve every problem in a business.
You need to re-evaluate your funnel, relook into your marketing and lean-into your personal brand. What you need is clarity on why your audience are not converting to customers.
This is a challenge we all go through. It's like a right of passage in some way.
You will be able to figure it out. We all do. It just takes time to test and reiterate.
But, if you need help and handholding in the process, there's a resource I'd like to suggest that I recently stumbled on.
